2 Meeting Notes based on Agenda

2.1 Glasgow Touch Association Constitution and Bye Laws

In a discussion Peter Faassen de Heer – the Scottish Touch Association President – had shared with David G the STA ‘vision’ as it related to the STA relationship with its associate organisations and the role and responsibilities of ‘local’ Touch associations.  It is the STA intention to promulgate their proposals for adoption at the STA Annual General Meeting.  David G had incorporated his understanding of the STA thinking into the Draft Version 2.00 of the proposed Glasgow Touch Association Constitution and Bye Laws which he had circulated to the Founding Group/Working Committee members prior to the meeting. The main changes in this version were:

  • The GTA Office Bearers and elected Committee Members would appoint their own ‘Directors’ of Coaching and Refereeing
  • Members of the GTA will qualify for membership of the Scottish Touch Association
  • The GTA Office Bearers and Committee Members will be elected at each AGM

These changes were supported by the meeting and it was agreed that David G would circulate the proposed Glasgow Touch Association Constitution and Bye Lawsto the members of the GTA – the registered Glasgow Touch League 2009 participants had been granted membership of the GTA.

The proposed Glasgow Touch Association Constitution and Bye Laws would accompany an invitation to GTA members to attend and participate in the GTA Inaugural Meeting.

It was confirmed that an application to set up a GTA bank account could not be submitted until a Glasgow Touch Association Constitution and Bye Laws had been adopted, office bearers elected and a formal resolution passed at a committee meeting.

2.2 GTA Inaugural Meeting/Election of Office Bearers & Committee

It was agreed that the GTA Inaugural Meeting, the election of office bearers and committee members would take place at the West Brewery, Bar and Restaurant – Templeton Building, Glasgow Green, G40 1AW – on Thursday 8 April 2010 starting at 8:30pm after the Glasgow Green Touch sessions.  Douglas J will confirm that the meeting venue at West will be available for the meeting.

David G would advise the GTA membership - that had been established as part of the League registration process – of the meeting, invite their attendance and participation and call for nominations for Office Bearers and Committee Members. This notice would be accompanied by copies of the meeting agenda and the proposed Glasgow Touch Association Constitution and Bye Laws.

Those present at the meeting undertook to canvass GTA members known to them to establish whether they would be willing to be considered to fill any of the office bearer, committee, appointee or working party roles.

2.3 Glasgow Touch Association Finances

In addition to his other GTA activities Douglas J had undertaken the role of Treasurer since the inception of the GTA.  He was thanked for the time and effort he had devoted to this and in managing the risks involved in the start up finances.

Douglas J tabled the detailed income and expenditure statements for 2009 and reported that there was a surplus for the year of £2,177.26.  The detailed statements would be posted on the GTA website.

2.4 Glasgow Touch League 2010

Arrangements for the Glasgow Touch League 2010 will run on Thursday evenings from 13 May to 15 July 2010 are well advanced and the playing fields and facilities at Hillhead Sports Club had been secured for the League 2010 and hire fees agreed.

There will be four pitches available and the participating teams limited to fourteen Mixed teams, six Men only and four Women only.  The entry fee will be fixed at £260 a team with a £30 ’early bird’ discount.  Consideration will be given to discount the Women only teams entry fee if the players were also registered for mixed teams.

Lynn W will draft the Glasgow Touch League 2010 Entry/Registration form which will distributed to the teams that had participated in the 2009 League and those who expressed interest in the 2010 League and will posted on the GTA website.

Douglas J undertook to issue guideline criteria and definition for those ‘eligible’ to be considered as playing members of Beginner Teams.

It was agreed that it would be useful to obtain feedback on the Glasgow Touch League 2009 from the teams that had participated and take the views expressed into consideration for the Glasgow Touch League 2010.  Douglas J to request feedback from the captains of the participating teams.

2.5 Glasgow Touch Tournament

The date for the Glasgow Touch Tournament has been set as 19 June 2010.  The preferred venue was Hillhead Sports Club but this is yet to be confirmed.

2.6 Player Induction/Coaching/Development – Social Touch

GTA will hold Touch sessions each Thursday on Glasgow Green starting at 6:30pm commencing Thursday 8 April until the start of the Glasgow Touch League in May.  There will be an opportunity for impromptu games to be played which will be aimed at developing skills and an understanding of Touch Rules.

The new players would be encouraged to form teams of their own or join already established teams.

Douglas J will post the ‘Social Touch’ information on the GTA website.

2.7 Facebook

Lynn W volunteered to establish and maintain a GTA Group on Facebook.
